IN OUR REGION

Saint Paul de Vence

https://www.saint-pauldevence.com/

The whole team of the Tourist Office of Saint Paul de Vence and its bubbly Director Sandrine Léonard, offer many activities to discover our Village. I can only advise you to go there. Their welcome is just like this splendid place.

The Tourist Office is located at the entrance to the village just after the Porte de Vence (called Porte du Nord)

Saint Paul de Vence is a real georgous village perched on a hill overlooking the sea, a picture. Beyond the postcard image, Saint Paul de Vence is above all a place steeped in history, its bastioned ramparts remind us that during the Renaissance there were hard battles in this place. Its collegiate church housing a work by Tintoretto also recalls its religious history.

Its narrow streets, its houses and its towers evoke a rich past. Its many renowned art galleries are a reminder that countless artists including Picasso, Chagall, Dufy, Signac, Matisse, Soutine, Utrillo have been inspired and for some have put down their suitcases in Saint Paul. The light is so intense and the panoramas so grandiose, that it is easy to imagine the trestles placed on the ramparts or the squares...

The Maeght Foundation, built in 1964 on the hill to the north of the village, with its unique architecture, is a must for all lovers of contemporary art.

The petanque court at the entrance to the village, under the large plane trees, evokes games played by famous actors and artists, Yves Montand, Lino Ventura and many others whose names are forever linked to the village.

You understand that if Saint Paul de Vence is the most visited village in France, this enthusiasm finds its foundations in art, history and its location, in other words that its reputation is at the height of its heritage….

And all the other beautiful Villages perched or not in the Alpes Maritimes

https://www.villagesetpatrimoine.fr/les-plus-beaux-villages-des-alpes-maritimes/

Our region is the land of choice for perched villages because of the alpine relief close to the coast, Eze, Gourdon, Tourette-sur-Loup, Coaraze…. Many villages will mark your journeys from the coast to the hinterland, take the time to discover them and immerse yourself in the authentic and gentle life of these wonderful villages.

All of them have a crazy charm and a story to tell you, you can walk through their narrow streets, often climbing, and for the good news descending in the other direction, the tall houses glued to each other, the shutters with louvered shutters often closed in summer to protect yourself from the heat, you will sometimes breathe in the smells coming out of a kitchen window, stew, basil and you will immediately plunge into the heart of an authentic Côte d'Azur or the sweetness of life is not only related to the sun...

The Côte d'Azur brings together an exceptional number of towns that have for the most part become mythical, each with its own identity and history.

From Nice the beautiful, capital of the Riviera, to Cannes the glamorous capital of cinema, from Monaco the Serenissima to Menton the lemon capital, via Grasse the world capital of Perfumes, whose know-how is listed as an intangible heritage by Unesco and Antibes

the city of the ramparts, discover surprising, different cities, each with a well-defined identity.

All have kept their historic heart where the monuments and houses evoke their rich past. The warm colors of the facades of certain cities are reminiscent of the Italian heritage and the whiter ones are reminiscent of the English heritage.

This cultural duality of architecture is found throughout the French Riviera.

We will be happy to guide you for your visits and show you the must-see places, touristic or not.
